The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu, has appointed his Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsawo, the Alara of Ilara as the 6th ( Sixth) Chancellor of Lagos State University ( LASU).
Oba Ogunsanwo’s appointment follows the completion of the tenure Professor Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served meritorious as the 5th Chancellor of the University.
According to a signed statement issued by Mr. Emmanuel A Fanu the Registrar and Secretary to the Council LASU, revealed that the appointment is made in pursuant to the provisions of Lagos State University Law 2004 (As amended), Chapter L69, Volume 7, Schedule 1, which empowers the Visitor to the University to make such appointment.
The Royal Majesty’s appointment is for a single term of (5) five years effective from Friday, 13th February 2026, at first instance and is renewable once.
The Lagos State Government and the entire University community appreciates Professor Elias, the former Chancellor for his contributions to the University and with dignity at which he represented the University throughout his tenure.
