Millions of eligible voters across Ekiti State will today, Saturday, 20 June 2026 goes out in Gubernatorial Election to elect a Governor that will direct the affairs of the State for the next four years.
1,028, 929 out of 1,059, 360 including 2077 voters living with disabilities which make up the Total Numbers of Registered Voters in all the 16 Local Government Areas that collected their Permanent Voters Cards ( PVCs) will take part in today’s Governorship Election with 30, 431 Permanent Voters Cards ( PVCs) uncollected.
Casting of votes in the election will commence at the 2,545 polling units that is the 117 wards across the 16 Local Government Areas simultaneously from 8:30 Am with accreditation of voters through Bimodal Voters Accreditation System ( BVAS) to authenticate eligibility signalling the commencement of voting.
9,780 INEC Ad hoc Staff, including members of National Youth Service Corp ( NYSC) will ensure the smooth conduct of the election seamlessly.
According to the Commission, 3170 BVAS Machines will be used for the election with 708 back – up units set aside if any of the BVAS malfunctions at any polling units.
On security for the election, 10,000 each from different security agencies including the POLICE, NSCDC, FRSC, IMMIGRATION have deployed across the State and major flash points to provide adequate security for voters, election officials, materials, adjoining borders and maintain law and order to ensure smooth conduct of the election in all the polling units across the 16 Local Government Areas without any hindrance.
13 Political Parties as represented by different Candidates, including the incumbent Governor wil participate in the Election for the number seat in the State.
For the coverage, 675 Journalists from 91 Media Organizations, 98 Observer groups, comprising of 96 Domestic, two International organizations; Thousands of polling agents representing different candidates, political parties have been duly accredited to cover and monitor the election across all the Polling units in the 16 Local Government Areas in the State.
Apart from ensuring the people of Ekiti State of free, fair and credible election, the Commission disclosed that the following constitute an OFFENCE or OFFENCES before, during and after the Gubernatorial election in the State: NO Person shall engage in any of the following acts or things in the polling unit or within a distance of 30 metres of any polling units on the date on which election is held.
Nobody should canvas votes, solicit for vote of any voters or persuade any voters not vote at any election; Be in possession of any offensive weapons or wear any dress or have any facial or any decoration which in any event is calculated to intimidate voters; Exhibit, wear, tender any notice, symbol, photograph or party card referring to the election, use any vehicle bearing the colour or symbol of a political party by any means whatsoever Loiter without lawful excuse after voting or after being refused to vote. Snatching of ballot box or boxes, destroying, defacing any election materials and blaring of siren.
The Commission affirmed that any individual or group that violates any of the stated offences would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law guiding the conduct of such election as prescribed in the Electoral Law as amended.
Any of the Candidates that wins in this Eight Key Local Government Areas with majority of votes becomes the new Governor of the State. The Local Government Areas are: ADO EKITI with a total of 183, 359 Registered voters; IKOLE – 78, 608 Registered voters; IREPODUN/ IFELODUN – 73,888 Registered voters; EKITI EAST – 64, 158 Registered voters; OYE – 69,002 Registered voters; IDO/ OSI -60, 066 Registered voters; IKERE – 67,991 Registered voters and IJERO – 66, 663 Registered voters.
