The Lagos Water Corporation ( LWC ) has announced a temporary distruption in water supply to parts of the Lagos metropolis, including: Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island, to enable the completion of critical repair and replacement works at Adiyan 1 Water Treatment Plant.
A statement signed by the Managing Director of Lagos Water Corporation ( LWC ), Engr. Temitope Mukhtaar, said the planned repair works are necessary to address a leakage on the ND 1600 mm Adiyan raw water pipeline located at the Akute Intake Station.
He further explained that the continuous leakage has been advertly affecting the ongoing construction of Adiyan Phase 11 Project. ” It was observed that the persistent water discharge from the leakage point is saturating the surrounding soil, thereby compromising ground stability and posing a safety risks to heavy construction, equipment, including crane and excavators, currently deployed to the affected areas.” he noted.
The General Manager further stated that Adiyan 1 Water Treatment Plant will be shut down temporarily pending the completion of the repair and replacement works. This measure is to ensure a safe and effective execution of the Adiyan 11 intake construction work.
Concluding, Mukhtaar assured customers that efforts are being intensified to complete the work promptly, adding that water supply restoration is expected soon.
