The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Bode Agoro , on Wednesday, 21st January 2026, formally inaugurated the Lagos State Health Scheme Enforcement Team that will implement the Executive Order on Mandatory Health Insurance, held at the Service’s Conference Room in Alausa Secretariat, Ikeja.
In his keynote address, Mr. Agoro stated that the Executive Order, signed by Governor Babajide Sanwo – Olu, is aimed to strengthen the implementation of the Lagos State Health Scheme and ensure universal health coverage for all residents, regardless of financial constraints.
He noted that the Enforcement Team, compromising representatives from regulatory and oversight Institutions, will play a critical role in ensuring compliance and accountability.
“Monthly Enforcement and Compliance report will be reviewed as part of our accountability framework and urged members of the Enforcement Team to discharge their duties with professionalism, deligent and integrity.
“Enforcement is not punitive, it is governance tool to ensure compliance, accountability, and translation or policy into tangible outcomes for our people,” he emphasized.
He noted that this event represent critical milestone showing Lagos State commitment in ensuring that every residents have access to quality, affordable, and sustainable health care irrespective of financial constraints.
The Head of Service urged Accounting Officers to ensure that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies comply with the Executive Order, by enrolling their ad – hoc staff, and display the LASHMA registration link on their website.
He stressed that the Government Institutions must lead by example in the implementation of the initiative.
The Inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, which includes the Special Adviser to Governor on Parastatal Monitoring Office ( PMO ), Hon. Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro, Director General, National Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, the Esteemed Body of Permanent Secretaries, Chairman, Lagos State Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences, CSP Adetayo Akerele, among others.
