The Chairman, Lagos State Independent Electorate Commission ( LASIEC), has assured Lagosians of conducting and delivering a Successful, Free, Fair, Credible Local Government Election scheduled to take place on Saturday, 12 July 2025.

The Chairman of the Commission gave the assurance during a Parley with Media Organisations to inform them of LASIEC Preparedness for the Local Government Election across the State.

She stated that Polls will open by 8: 00 am and closed by 3:00 pm.

Justice Ighile (rtd) disclosed that on Saturday, election will be held across the 20 Local Government Area ( LGA) and 37 Local Council Development Area ( L C D A)of the State and urged all eligible voters to come out in their large number to vote and elect the Candidates of their choice which is part of orderly transfer of power which is inline with democratic norms

She informed that 57 Chairmanship positions, 57 Vice Chairmanship positions, and 376 Councillorship positions will be contested for and election will be held in 13,325 Polling units across the state.

She confirmed that 15 out of the 19 Registered Political Party, who collected, filled and returned all forms and fielded candidates for all the elective positions will by law be allowed to participate in Saturday’s Local Government Election.

She further disclosed that a total number of Registered Voters stand at Seven million, Sixty thousand and Ninety – five. Number of those who collected PVCs is Six Million, two hundred and seventy. Leaving 865, 245 PVCs yet to be collected.

The Nigerian Police said there would be restriction of movement from 6 am to 3 pm on the voting day to ensure adequate security of life and property.

The Commission Chairman said that in terms of security for a violent free exercise, the Commission held a meeting with the Inspector General of Police in Abuja, Lagos’s Commissioner of Police, DSS and got the assurance of provision of adequate security on the election day.

The Chairman Said that she was assured that four members taken from each of the security agencies, including Police, Civil Defence Corps and others will man each of the polling unit as first responder and officers of the OP M E S A will serve as back up should in case any individuals or group of people want to engage in violent conduct. According to the Chairman, the Commission will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring successful, free, fair, credible and most importantly peaceful election devoid of violence, intimidation and harassment and appealed to all the Candidates to uphold all the democratic values and conduct themselves with decorum, maturity and rule of law.

She also said that the Commission will not condole any form of electoral malpractice and violent conduct and the various security on ground have been ordered to pick any one that violate the electoral laws or any other vices that can disrupt the conduct of the election.

As part of their preparedness, the Chairman said that the Commission visited LASIEC Offices in all the 20 Local Government Area 37 Local Council Development Area to ascertain what is on ground and also embarked on stakeholders sensitisation programme in all the Five Division of the State to ensured that they were in tune with all the electoral laws and guidelines that guide the smooth conduct of the Local Government Election.

She disclosed that all their Electoral Officers and Assistant Electoral Officers drawn from the Main Stream were trained for a successful conduct of the Local Government Election on Saturday. To ensure health and physical fitness, all members of staff including the management under took health examination.

Justice Ighile ( rtd) informed the gathering that all the electoral staff have been instructed that preference should be given to the aged, pregnant women and nursing mothers to cast their vote without hindrance. And that People Leaving with Disability should be adequately assisted in their voting process and they have also been allowed to bring an aide that would guide them when they want to vote for the candidates of their choice.

The Chairman concluded that each voter will cast his or her vote in polling unit nearest to their house and once they voted, they should leave the voting area immediately as security agencies have been mandated to ensure strict compliance of the electoral laws and guidelines.
