As part of the statutory mandate, the newly appointed Administrator General and Public Trustee, Barrister Salau would be embarking on a Statewide Estate/Assets Inspection Exercise.
The exercise which is expected to take her to the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the Five Divisions of the State will afford her the opportunity to ascertain the State of Properties been managed by her Office inline with its statutory responsibility.
Barrister Salau, in a signed statement by Mr Jide Jibola, Head Public Affairs of the Agency, disclosed that the essence of the Inspection Exercise is not only to ascertain but in relation to issues of tenancy compliance and the established rules guilding the regulations of both the estate and the assets.
According to the statement, the Inspection team which includes the State Counsels, other Support Staff led by the Administrator General and Public Trustee will examine the status of the properties and tenancy compliance as concerns the Estate under its Management.
She said: “the exercise is to reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensure accountability, transparency and proper management of property under its custody and to emphasized that regular monitoring and inspection of property remain sacrosanct in protecting the interest of beneficiaries and maintain the value of the estate and assets.
She noted that the inspection exercise form part of her office ongoing efforts in strengthening the estate administration and ensure that the properties of the deceased persons are protected and manage effectively in accordance with its mandate and Stipulated Laws setting up its operations.
The AG&PT in the statement further assures the public that it would continue to grant the beneficiaries easy access to their inheritance.
Inline with the ‘Establishment Act’ the Lagos State Office of the Administrator – General and Public Trustee is charged with the statutory responsibility of managing and equitably sharing Assets of Estates of person who died intestate (Without Leaving a Will.) Accordingly, The AG & PT may also act as Executors where it is made an executor to a Will.
The Agency Acts as receivers or Administrators during the pendency of suit so as to preserve the Estate from dissipation, Facilitate and obtain Letters of Administration on behalf of Beneficiaries to enable them access the deceased persons assets, Banks, Employers and other Institutions.
They Represents and defend Estates in Court and Death Benefits Verification, offering of free consultation services for beneficiaries seeking to understand administration process.
Most importantly, the Agency frequently conduct public awareness campaigns to inform residents on how to report deaths and initiates the administration process.
