Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State couple of minutes ago has officially defected to the Ruling All Progressive Congress ( APC ) from the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP ).
He announced this decision at a stakeholders meeting at Government House in Port Harcourt.
Governor Fubara during the announcement said his decision, and that of the people and his supporters to move to APC is to fully support Mr. President, identifies with him which can not be done in isolation and the truth is that without the quick intervention of the President, he would have been a former Governor of Rivers State today.
His decision to APC came four days after the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 17 others dumped PDP for the APC on December 5.
Before his defection today, Siminalayi Fubara was the only remaining PDP governor in the South – South region, following the recent defection of governors Sherrif Oberevwori of Delta State and Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State to the APC in April and June respectively.
Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State dumped the PDP in November, but has yet to officially join any party.
