The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or, Football most prestigious Individual accolade that will decide who takes home the ultimate prize/ award will be held tonight, Monday, 22 September, 2025, at the iconic Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, France which has hosted this event since 2019.
On 3 November 2023 UEFA and Groupe Amaury owner of media companies France Football and L’ Equipe, announced a partnership to Co – organised the celebrated Ballon d’Or award from 2024, which has been presented annually by France Football since 1956 and has become a top hour for any footballer.
As part of the agreement, Groupe Amaury remains the owner of the Ballon d’Or brand and will continue to oversee the voting system, which will remain unchanged and Independent. UEFA contributes its football expertise, markets the global commercial rights and organises the annual awards gala.
The 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony, in its 69th edition, will be hosted by Dutch football legend and former Ballon d’Or winner Ruud Guillit and prominent sports television personality, Kate Scott.
Barcelona legend and 2005 Ballon d’Or winner, Ronaldinho will hand over the Ballon d’Or Golden Ball to the award winners.
HSH. Princess Charlene of Monaco Will present “THE SOCRATES AWARD. A commited advocate for youth and education through sport. The Socrates Award presented by L’ Equipe and Peace and Sport honours Footballers who use their Influence to drive positive change and inspire new generations.
The 2025 Ballon d’Or has 12 awards, including 3 new awards for Women’s Football. These are: *The Men’s Ballon d’Or *The Women’s Ballon d’Or *Men’s and Women’s Kopa Trophy/ Best Young Player Men’s and Women’s *The Yasin Trophy for Goalkeepers *Gerd Muller Trophy ( Top Scorer in Club/ National Team *The Johan Cruyff Trophy ( Best Coaches in Club and National Team) *The Men’s and Women’s Club of the Year *Socrates Award Presented by L’ Equipe Groupe and Peace All Sports.
The players shortlisted for different awards was compiled by a group of Journalists from France Football working alongside French Sports Publication L’ Equipe.
Each Journalist cast votes for their top 10 players from 30 players – shortlist. The 10 players are awarded 15, 12, 10, seven, five, four, three, two, and one point based on where they rank.
If players are tied on points, then whoever has the most first – placed rankings from the 100 Journalists finished ahead on points.
Journalists are encouraged to consider three factors when deciding their vote. Individual performances, decisive and impressive character. Class and fair play.
The current Ballon d’Or Trophy which is 31 cm in height and 23 cm in diameter, weighing 7 kg, is made from two solid brass discs welded together, with a layer of 24 karat gold. It also included pyrite for the base and wax liked material for filling and currently valued at approximately €3000 ( around $2,920). This value reflects the cost of the materials used in the creation, including brass, gold, pyrite, and wax – liked material.
