In a battle for supremacy encounter, 1998 and 2018 World Cup winners Le Blues of France takes on Atlas Lions of Morocco in opening Quarter Final Match of the ongoing World Cup at the Boston Stadium tonight to decide which team plays in the Semi – Final.
France the two time World Cup Champions will be aiming to play in their 8th Semi – finals, having played at that level in 1958 in Sweden, 1982 in Spain, 1986 in Mexico, 1998 in France, 2006 in Germany, 2018 in Russia, 2022 in Quatar and in Mexico, Canada and United States. With this match Morocco will also be aiming to play in their successive Semi – finals, having played at that level of competition in last edition held four years ago in Quatar. And also to be the first African Country to do so.
To reached the quarter finals stages, France pipped Paraguay in Round of 16 by a lone goal, while Morocco defeated Co – host Canada by three goals to nothing also in Round of 16 to set up this crunchy encounter.
Tonight’s last eight battle between France and Morocco will be a rematch of the 2022 Semi – final of the World Cup in Quatar which France won by two goals to nil.
For the record, before tonight’s match, France and Morocco have met six times with France beating Morocco four times, while Morocco defeated France once and they played a draw.
