The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) with the Bureau of Public Procurement to strengthen transparency, fiscal discipline, and value for money in Nigeria’s Public Procurement system.
A statement by the Nation’s Accounting Body in a post on X stated that at the signing ceremony, ICAN President and Chairman of the Council, Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, mni, PHD, FCA, described the collaboration as a strategic alignment of two key accountability institutions. He noted that while B P P safeguards procurement integrity, ICAN reinforces financial integrity through professional standards, ethical discipline and technical expertise ensuring stronger oversight from budget appropriation to contract execution.
In his remarks, Director General of Bureau of Public Procurement, Dr. Adebowa . A . Adedokun, FCIPS, ACFE, welcomed the partnership and commended ICAN’s long standing commitment to professionalism, and accountability. He stated that the Bureau remains focused on entrenching, competition, transparency, and efficiency in public contracting , adding that the MOU will be implemented with clear structures, defined deliverables, and. measurable outcomes.
Both Institutions affirmed their shared commitments to strengthening procurement systems, enhancing public thrust, and ensuring that public resources translate into tangible national development.
