Mohammed Badaru Abubakar has resigned his appointment as Nigeria’s Defence Minister, with immediate effect.
In a letter dated December 1, sent to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Badaru Abubakar said he was quitting his job on health grounds.
According to a statement issued by Mr. Bayo Ononuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, stated that President Bola Tinubu has accepted the resignation and thanked Mohammed Badaru Abubakar for services to the nation.
The statement revealed that President Tinubu will likely inform the Senate of Badaru Abubakar’s successor later this week.
Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, 63, was a two – term governor of Jigawa State from 2025 to 2023.
The statement further disclosed that he was appointed as a minister on August 21, 2023 by President Bola Tinubu.
His resignation comes amid President Tinubu’s declaration of national security emergency, with plans to elaborate on its scope in due course.
