Ondo State has marked it’s 50th anniversary with a Golden Thanksgiving Service at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Isinkan, Akure, where Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa attributed the State’s survival and progress to divine guidance, the resilience of its people, and the role of faith in governance.
The Governor described the the jubilee as moment of gratitude and reflection, noting that Ondo was founded on principles of unity, human dignity, and moral responsibility. He acknowledged the church’s contributions to shaping ethical leadership, social cohesion, and civic values, and commended the people and past leaders for their dedication and vision.
Governor Aiyedatiwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to integrity, justice, inclusive growth, youth empowerment, Institutional transparency, and sustainable development, stressing that faith, visionary leadership, and active citizenship must guide the next 50 years.
In his sermon, the Bishop of Akure Diocese and Archbishop of Ondo and Ekiti Province, Most Reverend Simeon Borokini urged leaders and citizens to uphold integrity, discipline, and moral values, emphasizing that thanks giving must translate into responsible action. He prayed for continued peace, prosperity, and development in Ondo State.
The Golden Thanksgiving Service was attended by top government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.
Meanwhile, Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the declaration of today, Monday, 2nd and Tuesday, 3rd February, 2026 as public holidays across the State.
According to a statement issued by Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the declaration made by His Excellency is to enable residents of Ondo State to fully participate in all the activities lined up to Commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the creation of Ondo State a historic milestone that marks five decades of growth, resilience and collective progress.
The Governor in the statement urges citizens to use the opportunity of the holidays to join in the celebrations, reflect on the State’s journey so far, and recommit themselves to the shared vision of building a more prosperous and united Ondo State.
The statement concluded that Essential service providers are however, advised to make adequate arrangements to ensure uninterrupted services during the period of activities for the commemoration of the Anniversary.
