UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint German will tonight battle UFEA Europa League holders Aston Villa in the 2026 UEFA Super Cup at the Stadion Salzburg, Austria.
To played in tonight Super Cup, Paris Saint German defeated Arsenal 4 – 3 on penalties after a 1 – 1 draw to win the 2026 UEFA Champions League trophy in Budapest.
On their part, Aston Villa walloped German Club SC Freiburg 3 – 0 to win the 2026 UEFA Europa League title in Istanbul.
The venue of tonight’s match will be the 14th to stage the UEFA Super Cup since the fixture switched from its long – term home of Monaco, after Prague ( 2013), Cardiff (2014), Tbilisi (2015), Trundheim ( 2016), Skopje (2017), Tallini (2018), Istanbul (2019), Budapest (2020), Belfast (2021), Helsinki (2022), Piraeus (2023), Warsaw (2024), and Udine (2025).
This the second time that both teams will be featuring in the Super Cup. Paris lifted the UEFA Super Cup in 2025, after they came from 2 – 0 down to beat Tottenham on penalties. PSG Lost over two legs against Juventus in their first appearance in 1996.
Aston Villa won their previous UEFA Super Cup over two legs in 1982, seeing off Barcelona.
The UEFA Super Cup is an annual fixture contested by the reigning champions of the Champions League, and the Europa League, devised by Dutch reporter Anton Witkemp to decide definitively the top club side in Europe.
The UEFA Super Cup trophy stands at 58cm tall and weigh 12.2 kg. Made by IACO Group, the current model has been in use since 2006 but retains the basic design its predecessor. The classic bowl is held aloft on a base that subtly twisted like a skein of wool as two arms allow the winners enough room to take a firm grip as they do their lap of honour.
The winners are entitled to have a replica made, provided it does not exceed four fifths of the dimension of the original.
If the scores are level after normal time the match will go straight into penalty shootout no extra time played.
