The President of Societal Concerns Organization and Convener of Campaign Against the Killing of Nigeria’s Security Personnel, Ambassador Oluwayomi Oluwapelumi on Tuesday, 16th December, 2025 Unveiled Activity lined up to mark the second edition of the landmark event.
She then announced the programme for the Grand Finale of the historic event during a press conference at the Nigerian Army Sports Centre to unfold plans for the Grand Finale of Campaign Against the Killing of Nigeria’s Security Personnel slated to hold on Friday, 19th December, 2025 at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, FCT.
She disclosed that the theme of the Summit which is “National Security & Safety Dialogue” will bring together stakeholders, including top military brass, security leaders, government representatives, policy and decision makers, civil society leaders and media organizations from across the country that would brainstorm on the “theme” chosen for the summit.
President of Societal Concerns Organization, said the summit will also feature Inter – agencies engagements activity, conversation on security welfare and accountability, and recognition and awards to distinguished security personnel.
Earlier in her speech at the briefing, Ambassador Oluwayomi announced that the Campaign Against the Killing of Nigeria’s Security Personnel 2.0 has been implemented across three strategic locations: Lagos, Ogun States and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory which climaxed into the Grand Finale that will hold this weekend in Abuja.
She said that the three locations were carefully selected to reflect Nigeria’s Economic hub: Lagos State as Centre of Excellence, Ogun State being Gateway to the Nation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the Policy and Political Centre of Nigeria.
She said across the three strategic locations, the organization has engaged policy makers and stakeholders at all level and designed to deepen public reorientation, strengthen civil – security relations, promoting unity, national security consciousness, engaging of policy makers and stakeholders at all level.
She also disclosed, aims of the summit coincided in response to persistent and disturbing attacks carried out on Nigeria’s men and women in uniforms. She opined that officers were attacked, lynched and killed while on duties serving their fatherland and the killing also cut across police officers on routine patrol, soldiers on internal security operations, officers of the NSCDC, Customs, Immigration and other paramilitary agencies were not spared from this dastardly act.
She said each loss weaken the national security architecture and deepen the wounds on the minds of families and loved ones left behind and that collectively we must do everything humanly possible to stop this wanton killing of our Security Personnel, so as to have stable and economic viable nation.
In conclusion, she said that Nigerians should know that when any security is killed or gruesomely murdered, Nigeria lost a SHIELD, as violent against the security personnel is a violent against Nigeria as a Nation and that disagreements should not extend to mob action or unlawful killing of our Security personnel.
She advised the nation to replace hostility with dialogue, misinformation with understanding and violent with respect for rule of law.
In their goodwill messages, Commander of Nigerian Forest Security Services, Ogunniyi Balogun, in the standing by this laudable campaign, said their are representatives of the people, whose services is to protect their lives and property and for this reason, people should not engage in any violent against their personnel and that Nigerians needs to ensure their own protection also has this will serves as big motivation to all the men and women in uniforms.
He said during the interview this inhumane behaviors towards security personnel dampen their morale has more implications which makes Nigerians having second thoughts to join the security network of the country.
Highlights of the briefing was the presentation of plagues and certificates
In her goodwill message, Mrs Obi, who represented the Lagos State Director of National Orientation Agency, Mustapha Adedeji Tukur, condemned in totality those who engaged in this wantom killing of security personnel in recent time as alarming and disturbing and this evil act as she described it collectively must curb.
She described the security personnel as the backbone of the nation, safeguarding our borders, maintaining law and order to ensure we go to sleep with our eyes closed.
The National Orientation Agency, she will continue to organize sensitization programmes, advocacy that promotes unity, peaceful co – existence, tolerance, adoption of non – kenetic approaches to insurgencies, talking to people, changing their mind set when the needs arise to engage in peace dialogue rather than partaking in killing of our security personnel.
The side attractions of the briefing was the Sports demonstrations by the Karate, Kung – Fu and Boxing Teams that displayed different moves, tactics and technics with dexterity in this individual combat sports to admiration of guests and others who graced the occasion.
Later in an interview, the representative of General Officer Commanding 81 Division and that of the Chief of Army Staff, Commander of the Nigerian Army Sports Centre, Colonel, Mohammed Dalhatu Abba commended the vision and mission of the President Societal Concerns Organization for putting this laudable programme together and for focusing on the killing of security personnel and urged that the campaign must go on unhindered till every Nigerians understands the value and importance of all the Security Personnel on the street and accord them their due respect.
Certificates and plagues were later presented to the Guests, participating combat sports teams, including the Chief of Army Staff, Commander of the Nigerian Army Sports Centre, Commander of Nigerian Forest Security Services, and those who ensured the success of the epoch event. The event was attended by different strata of the society.
