Millions of eligible voters in Anambra State will today, Saturday, 8 November, 2025 goes out in the Gubernatorial Election to elect a new Governor that will direct the affairs of the State for the next four years.
Two million, seven hundred and sixty – nine thousand, one hundred and thirty – seven (2, 769, 137), out of two million, eight hundred and two thousand, seven hundred and ninety( 2, 802,790), including three thousand, four hundred and fifty – six ( 3, 456 ) voters living with disabilities which make up the Total Number of Registered Voters in all the 21 Local Government Areas who collected their PVCS will take part in today’s Governorship Election in Anambra State. Thirty – three thousand, six hundred and fifty – three PVCS were uncollected.
The election will commence at the 5, 718 Polling Units that is in the 326 Wards across all the 21 Local Government Areas simultaneously by 8: 30 Am with accreditation of voters to authenticate their eligibility for the election and casting of ballots by the eligible voters follows immediately, with 24, 000, INEC Adhoc Personnel presiding over the conduct of the election.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), 6, 879 BVAS Machines will be used for the election. 50,000 Police Officers have been deployed to provide security for election officials, materials, voters and to maintain law, order and the smooth conduct of the election in all the polling units across the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
INEC also said that the Commission has also partnered with TAFAfrica to approved deployment of Sign Language Interpreters across the polling units to assist all the registered voters living with disabilities in the State.
Sixteen Political Parties as represented by various Candidates, including that of the Incumbent Governor will participate in the Gubernatorial Election for the number One seat in the State.
500 Journalists from 76 Media Organisations, 114 Domestic Observers along with Observers from European Union and other Organisations. Thousands of Polling agents representing Candidates, Political Parties have been accredited to covers and monitor the conduct of the election across the polling units in all the 21 Local Government Areas of the State.
The Commission also said that 200 buses and 83 boats has been hired for seamless transportation of election officials and materials.
To ensure the transparency and smooth conduct of the election in a free and fair atmosphere, the Commission warned that Any person who knowingly votes or attempt to vote in a constituency in respect of which is name is not on the register of voters commit an offence and his or her are liable to maximum fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for six month or both.
The Commission also said the following also constitute an OFFENCE before, during and after the ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION 2025 : No person shall do any of the following acts or things in polling unit or within a distance of 30 metres of a polling unit on the date on which an election is held: Nobody should canvass votes, solicit for vote of any voter or persuade any voter not to vote for any particular candidate; Persuade any voter not to vote at the election; Be in possession of any offensive weapon or wear any dress or have any facial or other decoration which in any event is calculated to intimidate voters; Exhibit, wear, tender any notice, symbol, photograph or party card referring to the election, use any vehicle bearing the colour or symbol of a political party by any means whatsoever.
Loiter without lawful excuse after voting or after being refused to vote. Snatching of ballot box, destroy any election materials and blaring of siren.
The Commission affirmed that any individual or group that violates any of the offences would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law guiding the conduct of the election as prescribed in the Electoral Law as amended.
