The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun PHD, NPM will on Wednesday, 3rd to Thursday, 4th of December 2025 join both serving and retired female officers to celebrate the historic 70 Years of Women in Policing, marking seven decades of courage, resilience and dedicated service since the first set of Police Women were enlisted in 1955.
This milestone underscores the vital role of women in strengthening law enforcement and fostering community trust across the nation.
In a statement issued and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Inspector General commends the invaluable contributions of these officers to the operational effectiveness and public image of the Force, noting that their dedication and compassion have continued to be integral to the foundation of policing in Nigeria.
“In the past seven decades, women of the Nigeria Police Force have distinguished themselves in various capacities from administration and investigations to tactical operations and command leadership. They have embodied integrity, empathy, and excellence in service to the nation.
Through their selfless commitment, they have refined policing with compassion and purpose.
According to the statement, Activities marking the anniversary include, a national lecture, historic exhibition, interactive panel sessions, and an outreach programme. The celebration reinforces the Inspector General of Police’s commitment to promoting inclusivity, professionalism, and continuous capacity development for women in policing.
