Federal Government has declared Wednesday 1st of October, 2025 as public holiday to commemorate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji – Ojo who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government congratulated all Nigerians both at home and in diaspora on this historic occasion.
Dr. Tunji – Ojo in a statement issued by Mrs Madlene Ajam, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, enjoined citizens to continue to uphold the patriotic spirit, unity, and resilience that have sustained the nation since independence in 1960.
He urged Nigerians to keep faith in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ( GCFR ), which is anchored on national rebirth, economic transformation, and collective prosperity.
While wishing Nigerians happy and memorable 2025 Independence Day celebration, the Minister expressed confidence that with their cooperation, the country will grow stronger in peace, progress, and development.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has cancelled the Independence parade, previously scheduled to mark the 65th Independence on 1st October.
The Federal Government in a statement by Segun Imohiosen, Director Information and Public Relations said the government remains committed to celebrating Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary with dignity and commitment and stated that all other programmes earlier slated for the Independence Anniversary will go ahead as scheduled.
The statement concluded that the Government deeply regrets any inconvenience caused by the cancellation.
