The Olubadan – in – Council has nominated former Oyo State Governor, Senator Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Rasheed Ladoja nomination was moved by the Balogun Olubadan, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola and seconded by the Osi Olubadan, Oba Eddy Oyewole, during a meeting at the Oke – Aremo Palace of Olubadan.
Oba Ajibola who spoke at the meeting disclosed that all the members of the Olubadan – in Council signed in favour of Ladoja nomination, added that the Council would forward Ladoja’s name to Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, for official ratification, and for the scheduling of coronation ceremony, where the Governor will present Staff of Office and Certificate to him as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The nomination of Ladoja followed the completion of the 21 – day mourning period for the late Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025 after his reign lasted for one year. Olakulehin succeeded Oba Dr. Olalekan Balogun as the 42nd Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, the Olubadan – Elect was born on 25th September, 1944 at Gambari Village, near Ibadan.
He attended Ibadan Boys High School from 1958 to 1963 and also Olivet Baptist High School from 1964 to 1965
He then proceeded to University of Liege, Belgium where he obtained a Degree in Chemical Engineering from 1966 to 1972.
Rasheed Ladoja in botched Third Republic in 1993, was elected into the Senate. Rasheed Ladoja under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party, was elected as the Governor of Oyo State from 2003 to 2006 and was impeached in January and was reinstated in December 2006 and completed his term in 2007.
