Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo – Olu has commended the recently Inaugurated Governing Council of the Lagos State Cooperative College ( LASCOCO) led by its Chairman by the swiftness at which they organised a successful 2nd Convocation Ceremony of the College on Wednesday at the Johnson Agiri Complex of the Institution in Agege, Lagos State within few weeks of their Inauguration.
The Governor who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner of Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Cooperative, Trade & Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose – Medebem gave the commendation during the Convocation Ceremony of LASCOCO and described the feat as a true reflection of Lagos Spirit which is an attribute that drive the Administration commitment in developing Human Capital that has been the corner stone of the government’s economic agenda.
Governor Sanwo – Olu also acknowledged the leadership role of the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Trade & Investment and the Management of Lagos State Cooperative College in steering the Institution to “National Acclaim” in just a few years of establishing the College by Achieving a Full Accreditation of its Programmes by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) which has enable LASCOCO in providing technical and vocational training for our youths who are contributing significantly to build a resilient workforce that is required for a Twenty – First Century Economy.
The Governor while congratulating the Graduands described them as the “Torchbearers of the future, where Cooperative leads the way in driving inclusive prosperity and stressed his administration commitment in strengthening Cooperative as part of the “THEME Plus Development Agenda”. He added that the Graduating – Students journey through the trailblazing Institution has equipped them with skills, knowledge and value essential not just for their personal advancement, also for the transformation of our Communities and our beloved State.
In his address, the Outgoing Provost of Lagos State Cooperative College, Mr. Akorede Ojomu thanked the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo – Olu and the good people of the State for giving him the opportunity to serve as pioneer Provost of Lagos State Cooperative College and described the governor leadership has been the cornerstone of the College growth, enabling them to rise as a beacon of cooperative education in Nigeria.
The Provost said the strategic foresight of the Governor in establishing and inaugurating not only but visionary , action – oriented Governing Council has been the catalyst foundation for the remarkable progress and institution transformation which has propelled the College to unprecedented heights of excellence and setting standard for innovation and growth.
He said under the watch of the Governor, Lagos State Cooperative College has recorded many success stories which is been celebrated during this convocation.
The Provost stated that the Convocation stands a pivotal moment of triumph, honouring the culmination of students’ transformative academic journey through conferring of well – earned diplomas.
LASCOCO Outgoing Provost also reeled out various achievements of his tenure to include, erecting a befitting Academic Building fixed with the state – of – the – art facility, equipped to nurture minds and amplify ambitions, beyond bricks and mortar and as a bedrock for administrative excellence and academic brilliance.
Securing full accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education ( NBTE) for National Diploma Programmes in Cooperative Economics & Management, Microfinance & Enterprise Development, alongside interim accreditation for Computer Science.
Lagos State Cooperative College in November of 2022 received an award as the Best Cooperative College in Nigeria and the Most Performing Provost of Cooperative College in Nigeria at the National Cooperative Award Ceremony hosted by Cooperative Rating and Award Society of Nigeria in conjunction with Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
The Lagos State Cooperative College enjoys valued membership of the United Kingdom Cooperative College Manchester and also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the College that will avail both institutions the benefit of exchange programmes which will assist LASCOCO to derive considerable level of mentorship towards the strengthening of its overarching academic governance processes, core academic programmes and the pursuit of international accreditation.
The highlights of the 2nd Convocation Ceremony was the presentation of Certificates, Diplomas, Professional Diplomas, prizes to the 150 Graduating Students of LASCOCO from Department of Microfinance and Enterprise Development, Department of Cooperative Economics and Management and that of Cooperative Studies. 17 of the Graduating Students received Distinction in their course of studies at various Departments for the 2021/ 2022, 2022/2023, 2023/2024 Academic Sessions.
For outstanding contribution to the upliftment of education and other endeavours in the State, Five Nigerians Awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Lagos State Cooperative College.
Those who received the Honorary Fellowship of LASCOCO includes the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo – Olu, Mr. Samuel Egube. Former Vice Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Olarenwaju . A. Fagbohun – S A N Who was the 8th substantive Vice Chancellor/CEO of the Lagos State University of Lagos between 2016 and 2021. Honourable Oladele Oludamilare Ajayi, a member of Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ibeju – Lekki Constituency. Executive Chairman Ibeju – Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa. And lastly Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, Executive Chairman Lekki Local Council Development Area.
Mr. Samuel Egube, the Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Sanwo – Olu who responded on behalf of the Honorary Fellowship Awardees thanked the Lagos State Cooperative College for the honour bestowed on them which they will cherished for rest of their lives.
The honour, he said is a call to more responsibilities and will continue to contribute their quotas to the progress and development of Lagos State Cooperative College so as to attain great academic excellence.
In goodwill message the Vice Chancellor of LASU Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji – Bello, represented by Professor Olatoye, on behalf of the Senate, Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of the Lagos State University congratulated Lagos State Cooperative College on the occasion of their 2nd Convocation Ceremony. ‘We at LASU are proud to identify with your institution on this remarkable occasion and appreciate the commitment, hardworking and dedication of your institution in the training and development of the next generation of leaders.
Later in an interview with the former Vice chancellor of LASU, Professor Olarenwaju Adigun Fagbohun who was one of award recipient, thanked the Management of Lagos State Cooperative College, for finding him worthy to be awarded the Honorary Fellowship of the Institution. He thanked Governor of the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo – Olu supporting the institution with various state of the art infrastructures which has made the institution to empower more students and the younger ones in the society.
