President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday described the conduct of the 2026 All Progressive Congress (APC) primaries nationwide as a strong demonstration of internal democracy within the ruling party.
A signed statement by Mr Bayo Ononuga his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy revealed that President Tinubu stated this after he participated in the APC Presidential primaries at Ikoyi – Obalende Ward L 2, in Lagos, noting that the exercise was further deepen the democratic process.
The President, who arrived at the venue alongside his wife, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, was received by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo – Olu, Lagos APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, among party leaders.
The President in the statement commended party members for their orderly conduct, enthusiasm, and commitment to democratic values.
“This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan. This is grassroots politics where every members of the party has right to participate.
“It show that we have internal democracy and its peaceful and well organised.
On the conduct of primaries across the states, President Tinubu said, “I am very satisfied that Governors have done well in their various states, from the Ward congresses to Local Government congresses to delegate accreditation, validation, membership registration and certification of the electoral process. It has been done very well, and this, you could rate democracy at high level.”
He reiterated that All Progressive Congress (APC) remains committed to transparent and inclusive democratic processes that give party members at the grassroots the opportunity to freely choose their leaders and representatives, emphasising that their involvement remains the foundation for sustainable democratic development.
The statement concluded that President Tinubu also praised electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring the exercise was conducted peacefully and credibly, and urged Nigerians to continue supporting democratic institutions and national unity.
The President reaffirmed his administration commitment to democratic ideal, good governance l, policies to improve the welfare of Nigerians while strengthening political stability nationwide.
Meanwhile, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has announced that the collation and declaration of its Presidential Primary Election results will hold on Sunday, May 24, at the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.
According to the party, the exercise will commence at 10: 00 am, while accreditation of invited guests will begin from 7: 00 am at the Old Parade Ground, Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
The APC disclosed that attendance is strictly by invitation in which listed stakeholders are expected at the event.
The party said that Invitation cards for the invited guests are available at the National Secretariat of the party.
