Nigeria has signed a Memorandum Of Understanding ( MOU) with South Korea’s Asian Economic Development Committee ( AEDC) to establish an Electric Vehicle ( EV) manufacturing plant and develop critical charging infrastructure nationwide.
The National Development Automotive Design and Development Council ( NADDC) made the signing of the partnership known through an X post on Saturday.
The Memorandum Of Understanding was signed on January 30, 2026, by John Enoh, Minister of State, for Industry, Trade and Investment, on behalf of the Federal Government with the Asian Economic Development Committee at the Conference Hall of the Ministry to actualize this laudable project.
NADDC disclosed that the landmark collaboration aligns strongly with Nigeria’s National Energy Transition Plan ( ETD) and the National Automotive Industry Development Plan.
According to the Council statement, the Project will be implemented in phases, beginning with Electric Vehicle assembly and expanding into full in – house production, with an estimated capacity of 300, 000 vehicles which will create approximately 10,000 jobs.
The Director General of the National Automotive Industry Design and Development Council, Otunba Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, represented by Mr. Nura Sidi, Head of Policy, Planning and Statistics, reaffirmed that the Initiative will accelerate: Technology transfer, Investment promotion, Human capacity development and Research, design and Innovation.
He said that Nigeria is steadily building a sustained automotive ecosystem that support local manufacturing, green energy adoption, and global competitiveness.
