{"id":2632,"date":"2026-05-18T23:51:47","date_gmt":"2026-05-18T23:51:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsnavigator.com.ng\/?p=2632"},"modified":"2026-05-19T00:55:57","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T00:55:57","slug":"fertilizer-plants-dangote-vows-to-ensure-food-security-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsnavigator.com.ng\/?p=2632","title":{"rendered":"Fertilizer Plants: Dangote Vows to Ensure Food Security in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>*** Raises Investments in Ethiopia to $ 4 Billion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>President of Dangote Group Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed his commitment to boosting food security across Africa through large &#8211; scale fertilizer investments, declaring that the continent has the capacity to feed itself and become a net exporter of agricultural products. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dangote made this known while addressing Journalists in Gode in the Ethiopia&#8217;s Somali region, during a high &#8211; profile visit hosted by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.                                        The Prime Minister personally received Dangote and accompanied to inspect the site of the proposed fertilizer plant, where construction activities are already underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking on the strategic importance of fertilizer in agriculture productivity , Dangote noted that Africa&#8217;s food insecurity challenges a largely due to limited access to key inputs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Africa holds immense agricultural potential, yet continue to grapple with food insecurity due to limited access to fertilizer&#8221; he said. &#8220;Through our investments, we are committed to reversing this trend by boosting productivity, empowering the farmers, and advancing a sustainable path to food self sufficiency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the Group&#8217;s ambition, though bold is achievable with sustained investment in fertilizer production and agricultural infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Africa has the capacity to feed itself and even export to the rest of the world. Our fertilizer investments across the continent are designed to unlock that potential and  secure a prosperous future for our people,&#8221; Dangote stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dangote also announced a significant increase in the Group&#8217;s investment in Ethiopia, rising from         $2.5 billion to over $ 4 billion. The expanded scope includes critical infrastructure such as 110  kilometre pipeline, a 120 power plant, a polypropylene packaging facility, a two million toones NPK blending plant, among other new components. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He described Ethiopia as a key strategic destination for Dangote Group&#8217;s long &#8211; term investments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;On total, our declared and signed investments in Ethiopia now exceed $4 billion. This makes Ethiopia the second largest recipient of our investments in Africa, accounting for nearly nine per cent of our  continental outlay between now and 2030&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dangote further commended Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed&#8217;s leadership and vision for transformation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The Prime Minister is driving development beyond expectation but such progress required strong private sector collaboration .                       We are proud to partners with Ethiopia to help build one of the Africa&#8217;s most dynamic economies in the coming decade,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in his remarks, described Dangote as a trusted partners and commended the pace of work on the fertilizer project, which he said aligns with Ethiopia&#8217;s broader development priorities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He emphasised that the project would significantly boost domestic fertilizer production reduce dependence on imports and provide critical support to millions of Ethiopian&#8217;s  farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The expanded scope according to the Prime Minister the fertilizer plant will also create  extensive employment opportunities, strengthen the industrial value chain, and  reinforce Ethiopia&#8217;s position as an emerging agro &#8211; industrial hub in Africa. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This type of large &#8211; scale investment demonstrates the power of strong collaboration between government and private sector,&#8221; he said.
